# What is a residual in bid fill?

A **residual** is a response cell that stays empty, uncertain, or weakly evidenced after automated fill. Orbid leaves residuals visible so specialists can fix catalog data, interpret ambiguous clauses, or fill commercial rows—empty is safer than invented values.
